Marston Lake North Drainageway originates southwest of South Kipling Street and West Quincy Avenue. The drainageway flows in an easterly and northeasterly direction until its confluence with Bear Creek, southeast of Highway 285 and South Sheridan Boulevard. The project consists of a Major Drainageway Plan (MDP) for the entire drainageway.
The Marston Lake North Drainageway watershed encompasses approximately 2.2 square miles. The watershed is primarily developed with a mixture of residential, commercial, and open space land uses. The existing drainageway is approximately 4.2 miles long and has been improved by channelization or impoundments along essentially its entire length. A Flood Hazard Area Delineation (FHAD) was completed in February 1979, followed by an MDP in October 1979. Many of the improvements recommended in the MDP or improvements that follow the intent of the MDP have been constructed.
Goals of the MDP include development of watershed hydrology that reflects the future land use conditions, which is nearly the same as the existing land use conditions; identification of potential problem areas; development of drainage improvement alternatives to alleviate the identified problems; selection of a preferred drainage improvement alternative; preliminary design of the preferred alternative, and development of estimates of probable costs for the preferred alternative. Potential impacts to the floodplain will be evaluated for the preferred alternative. Interim deliverables will include: a Baseline Hydrology Report, an Alternatives Evaluation (Phase A) Report, and a Conceptual Preliminary Design (Phase B) Report. The final deliverable will be a Planning Report in the form of an electronic plan.
