Douglas County has awarded the project to Charles Vrana & Son Construction Company. While you may have seen many utility companies working along Q Street for some time now, construction of the Q Street project officially began March 9, 2009.

This page of the website will give you specific updates and anticipated construction events occurring along the project. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the construction of Q Street feel free to call any of the project representatives:

Note to Drivers: Please be aware that the speed limit through the construction area is 30 mph. Because Millard West High School is located along the project, there are many young drivers in the area. Road construction can be dangerous for both workers and drivers so please drive cautiously. Law enforcement will monitor the area for those not following the reduced speed limit.

Construction Timeline

3.09.09 -- Vrana is given official notice to begin work on the Q Street project. Trees will be removed along Phase One of the project in March to make way for future road construction.

3.30.09 -- South of Q Street on 180th Street, R Plaza will close for approximately 4-5 weeks. Full access to these businesses will be provided off Q Street at 181st Plaza while the entrance of R Plaza is under construction.

4.10.09 -- Traffic has been shifted to the temporary pavement on the south side of Q Street. This will allow the contractor to construct the north side. It is anticipated that traffic will remain shifted to the south side of Q Street until July 2009.

4.12.09 -- Sometime during the week of April 12th, traffic south of Q Street will shift to the east side of 180th Street after temporary surfacing is complete. Traffic north of Q Street will shift entirely to the east side the sometime the following week. This will allow the contractor to construct the west side of 180th Street. It is anticipated that traffic will remain shifted to the east side of 180th until mid-June 2009.

4.13.09 -- The entrace to Hawthorne Plaza off Q Street will be closed. The commercial area can be accessed directly from 180th Street and via 176th Street. Reminder: Northbound and southbound left turns from 180th Street are not permitted at Q Street.

6.18.09 -- Traffic is scheduled to be shifted from the south side of "Q" Street to the new pavement on the north side of "Q" Street on Monday June 22, 2009 at 8:00 AM. Traffic will remain on the north side for approximately one to two months while the south side of "Q" Street is constructed.

A similar shift on 180th Street, from the west side to the east side, is tenetatively scheduled to occur within two weeks.

Q Street Closures

There will be two overnight closures this week along Q Street. The first will occur Tuesday night (09/15/09) from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM. The closure will begin west of 172nd Street and end east of 176th Street. This is being done to perform storm sewer work in the area. The intersections of 172nd and Q Streets and 176th and Q Streets will remain open.

The second closure will occur Thursday night (09/14/09) beginning at 7:00PM. The closure will be for the intersection of 180th and Q Streets. This is being done to erect the truss for the traffic signal.
